I just got back from Australia and it was a lot of fun. There were tons of sights to see and the people were quite welcoming. Aussies are pretty cool – really funny and genuine. I got a chance to visit Sydney, Melbourne and Cairns. Here are some of the things I noticed while down under – people like to call you Gus whether they know your name or not; everything is huge even if it is labeled as small; despite what we Americans think, Fosters beer is not considered cool; lonely planet is based out of Melbourne and Melbourne strangely reminds me of San Francisco; there is only one style of cooking in Australia – barbecued; No matter where you travel, even Australia, American accents still aren’t cool; if you don’t want to die, look right when crossing the street; people out there still have the same guilty pleasures as here, but instead they call it “Australian Idol.” I really enjoyed the short time I was there. They’ve got a refreshing down-to-earth way of life and an amazing backpacking culture. Here are a few flicks from the trip:
